Introduction

Flourishing means doing really well. The Flourishing Scale measures people’s success (self rated) in key areas of one’s life, such as relationships and having a sense of purpose.

Previously, the scale was referred to Psychological Well Being (PWB) and is referred to as such in the paper (Diener et al., 2009). According to the authors, "the name was changed to more accurately reflect the content because the scale includes content that goes beyond psychological well-being narrowly defined."

The Flourishing Scale is relatively short (only 8 items). The average score among 573 university students was 45.4 points (midpoint 32), as reported in Diener et al., 2009.

The this scale has been translated in various languages. You can find the official translated version on the website of the authors of the scale.

According to the web page of the authors, "the scale is copyrighted but you are free to use it without permission or charge by all professionals (researchers and practitioners) as long as you give credit to the authors of the scale". The reference is at the bottom of this page.
