About this survey

Hello fellow students, professors, and people interested in the science of mind and language! Thank you for taking part in this experiment. Again, for the results of the experiment to be consistent and valid, please use a personal computer to participate in this study. Also, make sure that the brightness is set to the maximum and you don’t use any filters that distort colors when undergoing the experiment trials. You will take part in a 6-questions survey. The experiment will be launched right after the survey. When you enter the experiment, you will see 3 color chips in a form of a triad: 2 on the bottom and 1 on top. Your job will be to determine as quickly and accurately as possible, which color chip at the bottom matches the color chip on top. Just click the X key if the right bottom chip matches the top one or the Z key if the left bottom chip matches the top one. They will all be either light blue or dark blue. To give you a heads up, the experiment will look like this.

The second experiment is the color border detection task. You will simply have to click the Z key if the color you see is light blue and the X key if the color you see is dark blue.

Dear Potential Participant:

Please consider participating in a study about the influence of language on the perception of color and a possible improvement of the color discrimination abilities in bilinguals. Participation in this study is completely voluntary.  You are under no obligation to participate in the study and, if you do decide to participate, you may stop at any time.  There will be no consequences for deciding not to participate or for deciding to stop participation in the study.

If you decide to participate, you will be asked to color match 2 color chips out of 3 that you will be presented with and then to determine which color that you see is light blue and which one is dark blue, which will take about 10 minutes to complete.

The information you provide during your participation in this study will remain confidential.  The results of the study will only be reported in aggregate form and no identifying information will be released.  To further safeguard your confidentiality, please do not write your name or any identifying information on the study instruments.  The information you provide during the course of this study will not be used for any purpose outside the scope of this research project.  All data will be destroyed by June 1st.

Participation in this study involves minimal risk. Participants might get bored or fatigued as they move along the color matching tasks.

There is no cost to participate in this research project.

Thank you for your time.
