About this survey

Information Sheet – Factors that affect performance on a gambling task.

Primary Researcher: Hamish Bromley

The IOWA gambling task is a simple tool used to help researchers understand probability decision making. It has previously been used to assess problem gamblers and substance abusers and can be applied to any environment where money and probability come into play. In this research it will be used to study what factors may effect performance on such a task.

Should you decide to participate, you will complete a series of self-report surveys followed by the gambling task itself.  Firstly you will be asked for demographic information such as your age and gender. Questions on your mental health and financial situation will be asked, as well as questions on any anxieties you have around your finances. Finally you will be asked to complete the IOWA gambling task.  Participation should take approximately 30 minutes. There is no actual financial reward for taking part in this research.

To be able to take part in this study you must be a University student between the ages of 18-25 who considers themselves to be psychologically healthy. Participants who have any concerns about their own gambling should not take part in the study.  If you would like to take part in this study or have any questions please email hamish.bromley18@bathspa.ac.uk.
