REQUEST FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION IN RESEARCH
TITLE OF THE STUDY:
Before you begin:
You are to participate in a study conducted by San Jose State psychology students. You can participate in the current study if you are between 18-35 years old, and have no underlying neurological disease. You must be using a computer, as tablets and mobile devices will not work for this experiment. The total duration of the experiment will be approximately 15 minutes.
Please have a pencil/pen and paper with you for this experiment.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of the environment on decision making.
PROCEDURES:
Participants will be asked to complete a few questionnaires followed by completing a decision making computer task which will be approximately 5 minutes. Participants will then fill out a demographic questionnaire.
POTENTIAL RISKS:
There are no potential risks in this study.
POTENTIAL BENEFITS:
While there are no direct benefits to participating in this study, you will be helping increase knowledge of the effects of the environment on decision making.
COMPENSATION:
No compensation will be given for participation in this research.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
All information gathered will be kept confidential. Please do not write your name on any part of testing material. Data will be aggregated via the PsyToolkit reporting function.
Quantitative results will be shared with Dr. Jill Citron at jill.citron@sjsu.edu.
PARTICIPANT RIGHTS
Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. You can refuse to participate in the
entire study or any part of the study without any negative effect to you. You also have the right
to skip any question you do not wish to answer.
This consent form is not a contract. It is a written explanation of what will happen during the
study if you decide to participate. You will not waive any rights if you choose not to participate,
and there is no penalty for stopping your participation in the study at any time.
Your initials indicate that you voluntarily agree to be a part of the study, that the details of the
study have been explained to you, that you have been given time to read this document, and that
your questions have been answered. Once complete, separate this informed consent as your own
record if you have a need to contact the researchers in the future.
